Thanks to the great variety of its territory – rich in art, nature and good food - tourists who want to explore the Province of Perugia can choose from amongst a wide range of activities. There is a corner of Umbria, on the border with the Marches, where green meadows and forests form the backdrop to ancient villages, abbeys and hermitages, dominated by the peaks of the Apennines. This is the Natural Park of Monte Cucco (its peak is 1,556 metres high) whose depths contain an underground system of karst caves among the largest and most complex of Italy and among the best known and studied worldwide. The park is also the perfect open-air sports. It is ideal for hiking, walking and mountain biking on a dense network of trails, with eleven marked routes for a total of 120 km. The vast and fascinating underground world of the Monte Cucco massif provides speleology, while the abundant surface and underground water that flows through gorges and ravines is perfect for the sport of canyoning.
